Tickets & Fares

Needless to say, you need a valid ticket in order to ride our trains.
You can either order one via our travel information and purchase it on bahn.de or you visit one of our points of sale.

You can start out with us on the following tariffs:

  • Niedersachsentarif (i. e. Lower Saxony fare) on the entire route between Hamburg main station (Hbf) and Cuxhaven
  • Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV) (Hamburg Public Transport Association) on the route from Hamburg main station to Himmelpforten
  • Deutsche Bahn including all offers
  • Semester tickets of participating universities
  • Holiday pass for pupils (Schülerferienticket) within the scope of validity

Provisions of the respective transport associations or tariff community apply.

Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV, Hamburg Public Transport Association))

As of December 15, 2019, the HVV tariff will be introduced or expanded on most rail routes in the Lower Saxon districts of Cuxhaven, Rotenburg (Wümme), Heidekreis and Uelzen.

For our route from Cuxhaven to Hamburg Hbf this means specifically:

HVV season tickets are now valid across the board. You can travel from Cuxhaven via Stade and Buxtehude to Hamburg and back with the HVV season tickets (weekly, monthly and subscription cards, Profi tickets).

The HVV semester ticket is excluded. This is still only valid until ring E. Students who also want to use the rings F-H must purchase an HVV ticket for students. It is sufficient if the SemesterTicket is presented. Proof of eligibility is not required in these cases. The supplementary student season ticket must be valid from the last stop in the scope of the semester ticket.

Between Hemmoor and Hamburg, the HVV tariff also applies to single, day and group tickets. The previous transition tariffs in the HVV and the bus / rail cards along the railway line are no longer applicable. They are replaced by the HVV tariff for season tickets.

Important note: The HVV tickets in rings F, G and H are not valid on buses in regional and city traffic from and to the train stations. A separate ticket is required for this, which can be purchased directly from the bus driver.

You can find more information about the HVV at https://www.hvv.de/de/moin.

NIEDERSACHSENTARIF (LOWER SAXONY FARE)

The Lower Saxony tariff applies outside of the associations. For single and return tickets of the Lower Saxony tariff, the use of buses and trams for a journey to the start and destination is automatically included at no extra charge. This extended use applies in almost all of Lower Saxony as well as in Bremen and Hamburg.

On the tickets you can see from the imprint "and local public transport" and the like whether you can also use the local public transport with your train ticket at the start and / or destination. More information at www.niedersachsentarif.de.

This ticket is a universal day ticket for all local trains and public transport in almost all buses, trams and subways throughout Lower Saxony, Bremen and Hamburg. Travel in these three federal states is therefore straightforward and inexpensive: The Lower Saxony ticket is sufficient as the sole ticket. The ticket price is € 23 for one person and € 5 for the passengers.

Do you want to take your bike with you? With the Lower Saxony ticket you can book a bike ticket for € 4.60 and take your bike with you all day.

Which bus goes to the train station? The FahrPlaner app answers these and other questions about travel. This information platform can be downloaded free of charge from the app stores. Spar-Ticket (Savings ticket)

Just use the train for short distances and do something good for the environment. You can now reach destinations up to 50 km for € 6 with the savings ticket. For example, you can drive at a good price from Otterndorf to Stade or from Cuxhaven to Wingst.

At www.niedersachsentarif.de you will find an interactive map with which you can display destinations for each station that you can reach with the savings ticket.

The savings ticket is valid from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. the following day and from 0 a.m. on weekends, on public holidays and during the summer holidays in Lower Saxony from July 16, 2020 to August 26, 2020. Free travel on site by bus, road - and subways at the start and destination are included in the ticket. Children under 6 years and up to three children up to 14 years are also free of charge. Lower Saxony ticket plus Nordhausen

With this ticket you get another possibility to travel at a good price beyond the borders of Lower Saxony by train. This ticket is also a day ticket and ideal for a family or friend trip to Nordhausen in Thuringia.

The first person pays 27€ and up to four passengers 6€ each. All children under 6 years and three children up to 14 years are free of charge. The Lower Saxony Ticket plus Nordhausen is valid on all local trains in Lower Saxony, Bremen and Hamburg. With this ticket, the use of buses, trams and subways throughout Lower Saxony, Bremen and Hamburg is free of charge. Additional tickets must be purchased for the onward journey in Nordhausen and to other destinations in the Eastern Harz.

Summer vacation bonus

During the Lower Saxony summer vacation from July 16, 2020 to August 26, 2020, the 9 am limit has been lifted for both the Lower Saxony ticket and the Plus offers. This means you can start your trip to the North Sea, your city trip to Hamburg, a trip to Thuringia or a visit to Zoo Wingst with these tickets before 9 a.m.

For technical reasons, tickets with a reference to the 9 am limit will continue to be issued at some ticket machines during the promotional period. These tickets are still valid for before-9 am trips.
